Happy (belated) New Year

As I don't tend to do personal resolutions (I tend to break them by the 5th of January), I thought I would do a list of things I want to achieve in and around the house for 2011 (preferably prior to June). 2011 is the year of finishing tasks.

1. Paint the front door. I know, how long have I been going on about that, and it still isn't done. Must do that soon.

2. Tile the fire place floor thingy, it's been two years since we ripped out the old bricks and I am starting to get a little sick of looking at the chipboard. I have the tiles chosen, I think I may have even ordered them. Hmmm, wonder if the tiler could do that when he does the kitchen splashback?

3. Install a bigger air-con vent in the lounge room - once again, it has been two years of putting up with the one small vent rather than the two we used to have. Such a simple task, yet never gets done. I did once ring the people who installed the ducted system and they quoted me $600 to change it over. Considering it is a $100 part, a bit of duct tape and the removal of a small bit of plaster, I gave them a miss.

4. Paint all the doors in the house. There are 11 internal doors in our house and not one of them has been painted. Must rectify that soon.

5. Do something with the front of the house. The veranda needs to be re-concreated or something, and the posts holding up the veranda roof have been looking pretty rotten for the last 6 years. I would love to deck it,  but there isn't really the room, so I think we are just going to lay new concreate over the old to make it flat or something (I tuned out along the way as I was thinking about what colours to paint the front of the house by this time).

6. Finish painting the skirting boards in the office and have the carpets replaced. Whilst I am at it, I might as well hang the frames holding certificates on the wall too, rather than have them sitting in a pile beside the desk.

7. Hang the artwork I brought last March in our bedroom. Three little hooks is all it requires. I even have the hooks sitting on my bedside table

There were a few more jobs on the list, but I managed to get a few of those done over the Christmas break. Let's see how I go...

Ikea, I love you again.

After my outburst at Ikea a few weeks back, I found myself spending a quick half hour in my happy place (it really was quick, I forgot my purse!) and discovered that
a) their website sucks balls and despite not stating the white Hemnes 8 Chest of Drawers is available, it is infact a stocked item!
b) Some smart person at Ikea made a sheet of all the dimensions of the Hemnes range for me to take home and study (of course I found this after I had written it all down on the back of a receipt that was in my pocket).
and finally
c) it is possibly to go into Ikea and leave with no buying anything at all (after having ordered a serve of meatballs I discovered I had left my purse in the car and for once there wasn't six million coins in the bottom of my bag).

Anyway, after wanting this chest of drawers to be used as a change table after some slight modification

and having each and every drawer planned out in great detail, I realise it would leave zero room to walk around and use as a change table. So its smaller little brother it is!

Which isn't a bad thing, just means I need to re-think my storage needs. There is quite a bit of hanging room in the robe, so I am sure I could get some sort of hanging storage device from Ikea, otherwise I can always just buy a wire drawer thing for in the bottom of the cupboard if we needed it.

Anyway, this is what I have plotted for the room

The left side will be the chest of drawers (which will move slightly more out of the picture, the right side will be a bookcase for displaying pretties and baskets of toys. Thank the lord for blue painters tape being multi-purposful!

18 Weeks Pregnant

I started this blog long before I was pregnant, and it was never meant to be about being pregnant, so I haven't directly mentioned a great deal of personal things about my pregnancy. I am not sure why, I guess because it feels a little too personal, and although I know how blessed I am, I don't want to upset anyone who is yet to be blessed.

However, I take a weekly photo of my ever growing stomach, and finally I am going to share it with you. Slowly, ever so slowly, it is getting there.

Tiles Update

So I have finally made a decision about our kitchen tiles. I have decided on a cream subway tile with a glass mosaic tile in brown tones As you can see with my very dodgy Photoshop mockup, it is very neutral. It actually follows the neutral theme in our kitchen.

We had been putting off doing the splashback as I thought it was going to be rather expensive, even though our tiles are mid-range. By the time we have three rows of cream tiles, we don't actually require that many of the more expensive mosaic tiles. Woohoo!!!

Oh, and the best thing about this job, the husband has suggested that we hire our plasterer who is a tiler as well, to do the job. We are estimating that the job shouldn't cost too much, as it is less than 3 square metres of tiling. Fingers crossed we are right, as neither of us is thrilled with the idea of more tiling.

Merry Christmas to one and all

I am signing off for the weekend, as it is my final day of work for the next 10 days, and we are leaving extremely early in the morning to start our christmas madness tour.
