I Moved

Changes needed to be made around here. I had been toying with using wordpress for a little while, it had more features I was starting to look for. Like having more than 1GB storage allowance.

So rather than than stick with Blogger, I jumped ship to Wordpress, and decided to change my direction on name for the site.

Over at Composed by April you can keep up with me on the blog, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Please come with me. You could win a prize in the coming weeks if you do.

Public Service Announcement: Captcha

Cartoon from here

I never really had much of an opinion on captcha, it was just there. Some blogs had it, other's didn't. It never stopped me from commenting on someone's blog until about a week ago where after three tries I still couldn't get the letter sequence right. I gave up.

Google captcha used to be ok, it was one word with clear lettering. Then they changed it, and now it makes my 20/20 vision useless. I gave up using it about a year ago (I think, correct me if it is still turned on), preferring to use manual approving of comments. Not only is it easier for everyone, it means I am more likely to see comments and reply.

So, how do you turn it off in the new blogger? You need to go back to the old interface to turn off word verification. From the new Blogger dashboard page (the white and blue one), click the gear cog symbol under your profile picture and select "Old Blogger interface."

On the old dashboard page, click on "Settings" then click on the "Comments" link below the tabs. That will get you to where you can unselect word verification. Click "Save Settings" at the bottom of that page when you are done.

So there you go, how to turn off the Captcha in Blogger. Something I don't think Google want you to do.

Everything you never wanted to know about me

Have you met Loz? In case you haven't, she is all kinds of awesome. I always love a good Ninja story, as two things will happen - I will read and nod my head as I think Loz and I are pretty similar, and I will laugh as she has a great sense of humor and isn't afraid to show it!

  1. At school I was known as Curnz after an episode of The Simpsons. I still get called it by school friends, much to my disgust (and change of surname).
  2. I didn't enjoy being pregnant for 37 weeks. I think I managed to enjoy 3 weeks around 19 weeks, but it was all downhill from there. I thought I would love it, and tried to convince myself that I did, but on reflection, I didn't.
  3. On a car trip longer than half an hour I must have something to eat. Doesn't matter what, an apple, chewing gum or something sweet, it must go into my mouth.
  4. A lot of people don't like my boss in my office. I secretly think she is awesome and just don't speak up as I don't want them to not like me because of it.
  5. My mum breastfed me until I was 3 and a half years old. I think that is weird and not something I would do.
  6. I remember the most inane things, yet can't remember my own phone number most days. Knowing my mobile number would be handy, knowing what I wore on our first date 8 years ago is not.
  7. My first word was 'puss', much to my mothers disgust.
  8. I consumed more alcohol prior to turning 18 than I have since I turned 19 (and I am now 27).
  9. I have a huge fear of anything happening to Eliza. The recent train accident has me running scared, and don't get me started on pools.
  10. I wasn't qualified for my last job and they still gave it to me (without lying about my qualifications). I think they set their expectations too low, but am not complaining.

I never really know who to tag for these kinds of things, so I am putting it out there that everyone does it and we all learn about each other. Or you could just pretend you didn't know these 10 facts about me and continue drinking your coffee. Either one.

Weekend Recap

Following on from last week, I am doing Weekend Intentions again, this time with an extra day to do it - gotta love a long weekend!

This weekend I wanted to:
  • paint the door of my office, as it was really starting to annoy me - granted I did start this one random Wednesday night on a whim, but it needed another coat
  • paint the skirting boards in the dining room and lounge - I got lazy when we renovated and only painted the skirting boards that weren't covered by furniture.
  • make a large batch of chow mien for the freezer

I am happy to say I achieved 3.5 of the four tasks, but today is a public holiday in Victoria, so I plan to finish painting the skirting boards on the lounge side today.

All in all, another successful weekend. I only wish there were more of them around the place

Apprently I am Stylish?

Clearly Kel and Cat are delusional LOL!!!

The lovely Cat from Life in Cat's Pyjamas, and Kel from Natsukashii, have both awarded me a Stylish Blogger. Delusional as they may be, I am touched they think of me like that.

My requested tasks to receive this award are:
* Thank and link back to the person(s) who gave me this award.
* Share 7 things about myself.
* Pay it forward to 15 recently discovered great bloggers.
* Contact those bloggers and tell them about the award.

7 Things About Me That I Haven't Already Told You:
1. I have an unhealthy addiction to trashy TV shows. Shows directed at teenagers are my favourite (think Dawsons Creek, Greek, The Secret Life etc)
2. I can't use a battery drill to save my life.
3. I class walking around the shops as exercise. Same with the mailbox.
4. I will only wear Bonds Hipster undies. Fancy undies freak me out.
5. I remember the most random things. I can tell you what I wore on my first proper date with the husband 7 years ago (Sportsgirl wide leg jeans, a tan coloured singlet and a dark brown cardigan with brown boots).
6. I have started 2 degrees and one diploma and finished none.
7. Speaking of degrees, I actively avoid having to pay my HECS debt. I was shattered when I was given a payrise last year as it meant I had to start paying it back.

Winnings

I went through a little bit of a win lately, winning not one, but two blog give-aways!

The first was a beautifully framed set of paper butterflies in the paper of my choice, by the very talented Stormygirl! I have admired her work for so long, not only for her papercrafts, but her decorating style in her amazing house!

I chose red themed butterflies to go in our bedroom, on a self patterned paper.

Isn't it beautiful? It currently resides on our dresser, however I am debating which wall for it to be hung on.

The second was this little stash from TikiBoo Kids. The lovely Kathryn sent me a broach, two magnets, a hairpin and a bookmark all packaged up in a little linen bag.

Thank you both for your amazing generosity and beautiful crafts.

Changes are coming

I hadn't really been feeling my blog name for a little while now, and since it looks like I won't be leaving the country anytime soon, a change was needed.

When I sat back and thought what my blog about, I realised it is really just giving you all a view into my life, and now there is a new part of my life that you are going to see into (sorry about that!). And I like birds, so Birds Eye View it became. What do you think?

Oh, and if you are that way inclined, I made a grab button for my blog thanks to the lovely Emma's tutorial. Just copy the code on the right and paste in the html box on your own blog. Pin It

You could have knocked me over with a coat hanger

I have been reading Megan's blog for a little while now, and loved her house from the start.

Recently she shared her 'Mom Cave' which is actually her walk in robe. And it would terrible of me not to share it with you.

Here it is empty, don't you just love the chandelier.

And the shoes. Oh. My. God. The shoes!

Isn't it the most adorable space ever? I wouldn't have enough clothes to fill an entire section, however I am in love.

An Award

Days Like These and Me n My Monkeys gave me the Versatile Blogger Award, thank you both. I am well aware that I am a slack blog award receiver (I know someone gave me an award, but I forgot who and where, but thank you to that special person!)

The way this award works is you must:

a) Thank the person who gave you this award

b) Tell 7 things about yourself

c) nominate 15 newly discovered blogs to share this award!

So, 7 things about me. Hmmm

1. I lie about my age, but not intentionally. I forget that the husband and my best friend are 2 years older and myself, and I tell people I am 28, just like them.
2. I am a contributor over at BlogThis and love it.
3. One of my favourite past times is to dream how I would spend my millions if I ever won lotto. Todays dream is to find a cure for a common man cold!
4. My favourite ice-cream is currently maltesers and nutella smashed into vanilla at Cold Rock. Delish
5. I love shopping. Even if I don't buy anything, I love to look and consider the possibilities.
6. I am quite a private person, despite having a blog and sharing things with you all. I only tell people what I want them to know.
7. I love reading your comments, and seeing what you guys think about what has caught my eye that day.

Do you want to meet someone awesome?

I am blessed that I have some awesome friends. I am an only child (well I do have 3 step-sibblings, but they are all older than me, and I never lived with them), and classify my closest friends as my family! I would class them as more than family, as the saying goes, "you can choose your friends..."

Anyway, this is Britty. Everyone say "Hi!!!"

Britt and I live several states apart but have one of those friendships where the distance doesn't matter (well, least I don't think it does). We email back and forth daily about all kinds of things, nothing is spared! I feel like I have known Britt my whole life, yet it has only been a few short years! It has even come to the point where the husband knows Britt and her husband as though they are our neighbours!

Anyway, Britt blogs over here about all kinds of things, from her work, to decorating her new house, to her adorable kitty and puppy children! Oh, and shopping. This girl loves to shop!!!

Go on, go visit Britt, and make sure you tell her I sent you :)
