Laundry Ideas

How cool is this idea? I have no idea where it is from, I found it on my work computer (so it was from before I went on Maternity Leave). I'd want one for dirty washing, and one for clean washing for each person - least I wouldn't have to look at it on the couch all the time!

Mud Rooms

I would love a mudroom in our next house. It doesn't have to be as grand as these, but just somewhere to collect shoes and coats during winter rather than them laying all over the house.

I love the little lockers in this one, it would be handy with school bags in the future too.Stonebreaker Builders & Remodelers traditional laundry room

But even a little nook like this one would do.

Drying Cupboards

I spend a bit of time on the couch these days, and therefore spend a bit of time thinking about things. Generally I do most of my thinking at the early morning (4am) feed as I don't turn on the lights.

This morning I was thinking about drying cupboards and how they are a requirement in the house we build.

My mother in-law has one and it looks awesome. Honestly, it saves so much energy by not using the dryer, and the heating is on anyway.

Laundry (otherwise known as 'the room that is never finished')

Before we tiled our kitchen and bathroom, we had to pull our laundry apart. Which wasn't that devastating, as it was never finished from when I painted it in August, and most certainly never finished when we renovated our bathroom in 2006! It has become the 'room' that we never get around to finishing.

Out came the washing machine. Out came the million odd socks that were under the washing machine. And out came the odds and ends we had stored in there. For such a small cupboard we sure did pack the junk in there!
The laundry in April 2010

Once the tiles were down and we had finished painting, the door went back on its hinges, only for us to realise that the floor has now risen a good 18mm, and it is now too long for the space. Doh! So out to the shed it went, and it had a haircut. I knew that plainer would come in handy eventually.

Next step is to put the arcitrave back on, and install a shelf for detergents to sit on. Out comes everything. AGAIN!

Our poor walls after the skirting boards were removed. The decision was made to replace the skirting boards, and to cover the damaged walls.

Finished, and all moved back in.

See the shelf we have a (fake) plant and jar (stain remover) sitting on? It was one of the incorrect kitchen doors! I was originally going to use a timber shelf kit, and cut it down to fit our odd space and paint it like the shelf we originally had, however when looking in the shed we found this door, and we knew it would be easy to wipe down, and it could be cut to the size we required with very little work! Best of all, all we had to buy was a pack of screws and two L brackets, saving us $35 for the shelf kit we were going to buy.

Now to paint the architrave (and remove the washing machine for hopefully the last time!)

Laundry Love

Someone sent me this link recently, and suddenly it was 3 hours later and I was still drooling over the beautiful rooms.

These were the standout laundries for me. I would love to have something similar in our new house, but I don't tend to spend a lot of time in our laundry. So I guess it would be wasted. But you never know, I might discover a love of doing laundry

Laundry Tip: Stains

Sorry guys, I will promise to return soon. Things are crazy at work at the moment, and by the time I get home of a night I eat dinner and fall asleep!

However I wanted to tell you about something I discovered recently. I am a messy cook. I will get dirty no matter what I am cooking. A LOT of my clothes end up with oil stains on them. Majority of the times they are good clothes, that now become house clothes due to the oil stain.

So the other day I had to ring a solicitor about an issue at work, and was put on hold for a little bit. Which suited me fine, as they had their phone system linked to Shannon Lush on ABC Radio. And today she was talking about oil stains! AWESOMENESS!

So here is the trick to get oil stains out of clothes: Apply a small amount of dishwashing liquid (doesnt matter on brand) on the stain. Shut your eyes, and rub the dishwashing liquid in a circular motion. It will change to a jello consistancy after a bit. Wash as per usual. No more stain.

I tried this the other week on a pair of shorts, and it worked even though I stained them 6 months ago. Go on, give it a go.

Laundry: Update

I was asked to swap my days around at work, and had today off instead of tomorrow (which totally ruined my plan to take today off as well as tomorrow, giving me almost three weeks of leave for the price of two)

So my plan of attack was to get into our laundry and paint it before the new dryer goes in.

Hmmm, seems I cant find a before picture on this computer, and well, I am too lazy to walk to the office to search the hard-drive, but it structurly hasnt changed, it was just plain white

we temporally put everything back in (mainly because I wanted to shower in the next couple of days before i can paint the back wall)
Just so you can see the difference in paint colours

Now, technical issue, should I paint the back wall Toffee Fingers brown, as per our loungeroom
Photobucket
Or just paint it the same colour as the other walls (Dulux's Hogs Bristle Half)?

Opinions???

It's Tuesday and I Cant' Wait

Image from Flickr

Over the weekend, I brought a new clothes dryer from ebay. It is practically brand new, rarely been used, and was local (a rarity), and best of all, $250 cheaper than the one we had been looking at earlier in July.

So, I cant wait to have the old dryer moved out, so I can paint the inside of our laundry cupboard, and have the doors installed. I am thinking of painting it the same colour as the rest of our house, with the back wall the same colour as our lounge feature wall.

Laundry

A while back I mentioned that I was wanting to make our laundry look a bit more pretty. Well today, with some moaning, husband and I ordered our bifold do or for the laundry. We originally planned on putting in normal hinged doors on the cupboard and attaching a hanger like this one
but i guess it will now have to go on the wall.

So rather than hang our boring old ugly ironing board on the wall, i brought this one from etsy

Surely it should make doing the ironing a bit more fun

Isnt it pretty? I have also brought matching material to make a peg bag. Pin It

Laundry

This is our laundry currently
Photobucket
As you can see, it is in our bathroom, and when we renovated we kept it there. We plan to put doors on the cupboard, but two years on, we still havent quite got around to it.

But, along with the doors, it has always been a bit bland. So I am thinking of giving it a bit of a spruce up. I am thinking of painting the wall with the same green we have used on the walls in the bathroom (Metallic Earth Edge by Dulux).

But I am trying to come up with other ways to make it a bit more interesting. So off to my favourite place: Etsy

Decal from A Sticky Place

Ironing Board Cover from City Chic Country Mouse

And I am thinking I can make a version of this in some fabric I have at home. I am currently using my bra bag to hold my pegs, and I need it back soon before my husband kills me for buying more bras

What do you think? What do you suggest?
