Woolies iPhone App

I am a supermarkets dream shopper. I am too lazy to go to multiple stores, and I am easily persuaded by flashy advertising and free products. Oh how I love a free cookbook that comes with an ingredient I never knew I needed. And if they happen to offer me a rewards card, well then, even better.

Now, given I am a very loyal nerd, and the very easily convinced household shopper, I had a slight jizzim attack when I saw that Woolies had FINALLY launched their iPhone app.

Things I like about it:

  • Easy to navigate
  • Shows items in my shopping lists in the order they are within my local store
  • It lists every item stocked by the store - not just a small selection of their stock
  • The catalogue is updated weekly - terribly handy when my catalogue man does a runner
  • You can even read the catalogue and add items to your shopping list
  • There is even a recipe database - handy if you don't know what to make for dinner
Things I don't like:
  • It lists the back wall of my supermarket as an Asile. Not a huge thing, but kinda annoying when it tells me to get the milk and I am still at the start of the store
  • It lists a lot of products that aren't carried by my store
Should you download this App
If you shop at Woolies, and own an iPhone or Android phone, then sure, it is free afterall. If you shop elsewhere, there are other generic shopping apps that might be better suited to you

Charging

I was flicking through Twitter recently, and saw a concept that I think is pure genius - powerpoints with USB points.

As someone who recently had to buy a new iPhone charger because I left it in a hotel, I think this is a great idea. Majority of smart phones are charged by USB, so why not. And if you need a regular powerpoint, its right there.

iPhone App: iBook

Picture from here

This is a simple App, and from what I can remember, a free one too. iBook is just that, a book on your iPhone (or iPad, whichever way you swing), that you can take anywhere with you.  Originally released for the iPad, to rival the other E-Readers on the market, iBooks had a slowish start. Release it onto an iPhone and you have a much wider market. Wise move Apple.

I personally have a US iTunes account, as they have better content that the Australia store, and apparently this is very true for the bookstore. Whilst in the US store I can buy majority of new release novels (I am currently reading The Carrie Diaries), the same can't be said for the Australia store (fix this please Apple). Books are reasonably priced, I think I paid $15 for The Carrie Diaries, which was cheaper than I could find it on eBay, plus I don't have to lug around a heavy book.

This App has saved myself from boredom many times: being stuck on a train, waiting in doctors surgeries, and even the odd lunch break at work, I just open iBooks and away I go, I never loose my page thanks to the handy bookmarking system, and how it syncs with my computer when I remember to connect my phone.

Oh, and the husband loves it as it means I don't have nearly as many books laying around the house!

This is a Blog This challenge. Head on over and submit your review, but do it before 8pm tonight (Sydney time)! Pin It

Spotlight on an iPhone - Sleep Cycle

I am one of those people who have sucky sleep. I wake up tired, generally because my alarm goes off at all the wrong times.

So, when a friend told me about Sleep Cycle, I thought I would give it a go, to see if it improved.

The Sleep Cycle alarm clock is a bio-alarm clock that analyzes your sleep patterns and wakes you when you are in the lightest sleep phase.

Waking up in the lightest sleep phase feels like waking without an alarm clock - it is a natural way to wake up where you feel rested and relaxed.
Since you move differently in bed during the different phases, Sleep Cycle uses the accelerometer in your iPhone to monitor your movement to determine which sleep phase you are in.It then gives you a read out map of your cycle from the night before.

It has made a difference, and as the number 1 app all around the world, I am guessing a few others have thought that too.

Spotlight on an iPhone - Cellar

Have I got an iPhone app for you!

Cellar is designed to help you keep track of your wine and remember what to buy next time you visit the liquor store, (thanks to the app's unique 'Garage' feature).Cellar is not just a list of wines in your cellar or wine rack - it's a visual, editable, swipeable showcase. It's an actual cellar! And when you've finished a bottle, if you'd like to keep it for reference in the future, store it in the Garage where all your archived bottles are ordered by star rating, ready to be repurchased and moved back to the Cellar.

I am not much of a wine drinker, but the husband is. So this is the way to go. There is nothing worse than standing in the middle of Dan Murphy's trying to remember what a bottle looks like, little own what it was, or who made it!

It is a few dollars from the iTunes App Store (sorry, I can't remember exactly how much), but it is well worth it!

Spotlight on an iPhone - Footy Lite

One of my favourite app's on my iPhone is Footy Lite, made by Slattery Media Group. I do admit, I have a vested intrest in it, my very tallented brother in law created the app. Whilst it has useful features already, he tells me there are more features coming soon, which I am hanging out for with much anticipation.

The free App is about providing the fastest access to live scores. Footy Lite includes:
- Live match summaries including scores, including timezone support.
-Results of previous rounds,
-this week's matches and next weeks matches.
-Includes venue, starting time and TV Broadcaster in your state.
So if you love your footy, and have an iPhone, you must download this app.

iPhone 3.0

being the nerd that I am, and an Apple fan-girl, I can't wait for 3.0 to be released.

So much so that I have set my alarm an hour earlier for Wednesday so that I can download it before work.

Man I am lame. LOL

Love/Hate

Last night I tweeted (sorry, i would give you a link to my Twitter, but the work place doesnt allow Twitter, but they allow millions of coffee and smoke breaks *shakes fists*) about what I love and hate about the same item.

What I love about my mac: the duckheads - makes it so much easier to move power between the office and the lounge room.

What I hate about my mac: the USB ports being next to each other. It makes it impossible to use bigger devices, such as my card reader. I much prefer it on my Macbook Pro where they are on opposite sides.

Now, a friend asked me what a duckhead is. I couldnt explain it in 140 characters, so Gem, this is for you

The little plug with no cord is the duckhead. The thing I like most about it is that I have the little plug left in the office power point, and the cord behind the couch. When I want to move power source i just unconnect the charger (the white box) and attach it to the other device. I dont have to get behind the couch to find the cord.
Also, if I go overseas, i just buy that countries duck head. How easy. No converters for me :D What makes it even more awesome, it is the same duckhead for my iPod, iPhone and Macbook Pro. So I have these little duckheads all over the house. extra awesome! Pin It
