Nursery (with an actual baby)

So in the interest of being honest, I should state that this is after a quick tidy up. Eliza had not long spewed before I took this photo and all her bedding was in the middle of the floor.

You can just see a baby in the cot there. The quilt my mum made was removed the first day we got home and hasn't been near the cot since. Pretty things aren't always very practical apparently!

The kitchen stool entered the room when we spent many hours patting Eliza to sleep. We have since given up on the patting, but the stool has stayed. Oh and we have curtains now!

The quilt became a chair cover though, so it is still in the room. The chair is an old fashioned recliner (circa 1970 in 1970 mission brown velour) that we borrowed from the husbands parents as I found it comfortable to feed in. That lasted for the first few weeks until I found it uncomfortable and it hasn't been removed yet.

On a pretty note, I brought Eliza a new doona thingie in pink and orange as I thought it was cute, and slightly more functional than the other one. Each night I fold it back and it gets used as an extra blanket.

So there you go, that is Eliza's room as it stands now. A little different to what it was two months back, but it is bound to change in the future too.

The Nursery (pre-baby)

So tonight I realised I never posted the finished nursery all finished. I posted bits and pieces of it, but not the whole thing. Opps.

The sunscreen blind I brought from eBay. I can't recommend Jodie Blinds enough. They were very reasonably priced for a custom made blind, and the quality is better than the much more expensive blind in our bedroom. I never did get a pre-Eliza photo of the curtains thanks to the local lady who told me my curtains would be installed mid May, well before my baby was due, and then didn't do them til mid June!

Stay tuned for how reality pans out and see what 'Cyclone Eliza' has done to the room.

Things I love

Or rather this post should be titled "Things in Eliza's room that keep April from going mental at 3am".

Eliza's iPod with Sounds of Silence playing. The track 'White Noise' stops her crying instantly.
(I now have it loaded on my phone and in the car, and often find myself humming the tunes of the classical lullabies)

Also in the above photo is the GroEgg. I quite like the egg, as I can tell if it is too hot or cold in Eliza's room from bed based on if it is blue (cold), yellow (just right), orange (bit toasty) or red (turn off the heater). If we had brought a monitor I probably wouldn't have bothered with it, but I quite like it.

Finally, Nursing textbooks. So terribly handy to raise the height of the cot at one end to help with reflux. And honestly, what else does one do with Mosby's Medical Dictionary?
(Clearly $200 well spent given I am not a nurse. Least it is being used though)

Damn You

Remember how I fell in love with this nursery bedding set, and was bitterly disappointed when  discovered that Joel Dewberry had discontinued the Aviary fabric range, and I had to move on?

Well it seems Joel Dewberry has re-released the Aviary range, calling it Aviary II in slightly different colours. Hmmm, how many bedding sets does one small child need when they don't actually use it as bedding?

PS - Joel looks nothing like I ever imagined him to either, he reminds me a bit of Harry from Sex & the City (its the bald head thing). Pin It

Land of Nod

Have you ever been to the Land of Nod? Not as in that place where you close your eyes and catch some zzz's, but the store in the US?

If not, you really should, it has some incredibly cute things, and best of all, they ship to Australia. AND get this, it isn't like shopping at GAP thinking it is incredibly cheap, only to find out the shipping is $120 to get 2 jumpers, 3 jumpsuits and a pair of pants to Australia. (I wrote them a very cranky email regarding this, as even over at Gymbo shipping is only $35) Shipping on two quilts, a valance, a change mat and 3 sheets was a very reasonable $20.

Oh, and just incase you are curious, these were in my hypothetical cart

And I wish I put this in, as it is so cute (though is only an extra $5 to buy in Australia, so prob not worth the conversion of my credit card).

Nursery Rhymes

Once upon a time I may or may not have said that if I had a little girl I would never go over the top with pink things.

Yet here I am, sitting her looking for pink (and orange) material and looking at linen that just happens to be pink. I am currently loving Jacadi for both their clothes and their decor.

Oh my, how cute is this little hedgehog? I love it!!!

Felt Owls

I love Plushka Felt Owls, they are so cute. Thanks to Chrissy, from A Country Wife, for mentioning them a little while back.

Cute Bird Artwork for Nursery

I found Sugarloop's etsy store via I Sometimes Obsess's blog, and thought it was terribly cute, especially if I went with a Orange themed nursery.

Aviary Inspiration

Do you ever have one of those days where you click on a blog, follow a link to another blog, and then 5 hours later have lost track of a) time b) how on earth you managed to get to there in the first place.
No? Me neither.

But I did manage to come across Rural Socialite who commented on the Joel Dewberry Aviary bedding made by Javis Davis ad I was in love.

Soothing Grey Nursery

Stalking Project Nursery has really become my new favourite hobby! I love seeing the different ideas people come up with.

One of nurseries that made me go "ohhh, that is so cool, I love it" was Beebs275 with her soothing grey nursery with birch trees.

Love how the paper crane mobile looks like the birds are actually flying in the trees, how clever!

Love this space

Apparently this is from Absolutely Beautiful Things according to Google, but I couldn't find the post listed on Anna's blog. Terribly sad about that, as I would love to see the rest of the room :(

Bold Nursery

I am fascinated by sgallacher's nursery, with it's bold orange zebra rug and dark blue walls. A colour combination I wouldn't normally think of together, but it works!
