Photo Wall - Finished

I finally finished Eliza's wall. Just in time to move out!

I couldn't think of what I wanted to put in the frames, it originally was going to be fabric, but it didn't look right. I happened to buy wrapping paper for a few presents, and bam! It hit me, and thats what went in the frames.

I quite like it.

Love vs Design

I have had Love vs Design bookmarked for a little while now, but never really got around to looking at their site. It wasn't until I saw a picture of theirs pinned on Pinterest that I went and looked.

I am in love with their feather gift tags, and best of all they are free! Now I just have to wait another 8 months before I can use them :(

Decals

I love these decals from Elly Nelly and wish I had someone that would suit them in our house. They are elegant and quirky all at the same time.

Photo Wall

So I mentioned that Eliza has a photo wall in her room last week, part of which is made up of her name poster. Today I will share the rest of it, though it isn't quite finished.

The alphabet and 'Keep Clean' posters were from Salt and Paper, the mouse/racoon/rabbit pictures were from The Fox and The Teacup. I'm not happy with the quote (which I made myself) however it will do for now.

I still need to get the final two frames from Ikea. Will do that eventually. But it beats having a plain boring wall in her room!

Cheap Office Changes

My office is always a work in progress, it is never really finished, and lets be honest, it probably never will be. But in order to make it look that bit more attractive, I decided to switch a few things up.

Firstly, the cushion cover. The first cushion cover I made was never a work of art. It was wonky and poorly made. I learnt my lesson (sort of). And then made a new cushion cover.

Ok, so it's not finished, it has no zip in the back, I am still working out how to do that part. But it looks functional from 3 sides. In the words of Meatloaf, 3 out of 4 ain't bad. (PS - if you happen to know how to do the zip do let me know).

Next was the book cubes. We had paperwork coming out of our ears for new things, and our filing system wasn't cutting it. New folders were needed. More folder space meant there was less cube space though, so things got shuffled. The phone went into the modem cupboard, folders that were used regularly went up higher, and new baskets (stolen from Eliza's room) were introduced. I think I might make one basket for toys though, so need to reshuffle everything.

Next was the walls. I had some Ikea frames laying about and decided to display the photos we have had taken of Eliza at birth, 3 months and 6 months. However, 3M command hooks let me down and one frame fell off the wall so it looks a little odd right now. I might take it down and put it elsewhere.

On the other wall I wanted to do something cheap and unpersonal for when we sell the house. I found this set of 3 canvas's as a junk shop for $12 and covered them with fabric I already had. I like how it ties in with the seat cushion.

So thats how I cheaply changed up our office to make it look more attractive for sale. Fingers crossed it works!

Name Posters

(Obviously the blanks aren't in the final printed version)

I had seen on Pinterest some different birth announcement posters and thought they were cool, however I never really found something like I had imagined in my head. I must have seen it once upon a time, but it never showed up when I was looking for it, so I decided to make my own.

It took me a few hours of fiddling in photoshop, but I got there in the end. It is by no means perfect, but it is unique, just like Eliza.

I had a coupon for Snapfish to do a poster, so I ordered it from there for the grand sum of $5. I had plans for a photo wall in Eliza's room and already had the frames from Ikea, so we were good to go.

I like it, and am happy with how it turned out. I have had a few friends comment on it, so I am guessing I am not the only one. What do you think?

Owls

I recently saw this owl mobile, made by Birdienumnum, and thought it was rather cute. I could imagine a whole family of owls, one for each member of the family hanging up there.

Hmmm, that gives me an idea...

Family Photos

We recently had some family photos taken of the three of us as a fundraiser for a local Kinder. I thought they would make easy awesome christmas presents for grandparents etc, so I paid the hefty price for the package. I had a promo coupon from Huggies for a 30x30 photo canvas from Snapfish, and thought "what the heck, might as well treat ourselves".

So we ended up with this photo above our TV. Being the awesome bargain hunter I am *scoff* I was patiently waiting for a sale on Snapfish, Big W or any other random photo site. The gods delivered and Snapfish had a half price canvas sale, so I ordered the other two poses.

I do love that picture of Eliza!

Drawer Knobs

When I was buying the furniture for Eliza's room I wanted to get crystal knobs for her dresser, but worried that it would be too girly if I had a boy (and I was convinced I was having a boy). So I left the stock standard Ikea knobs on the dresser and forgot all about it.

Then whilst killing some time on ebay, I found some crystal knobs for less than $3 each. Bargain.

Aren't they pretty?

Milk Glass

I do love a glass of chocolate milk, and thought this glass (pictured with lemon soft drink in it) was just too cute to walk past. It is just the right size too.

You can find them from The Little Big Company.

Jewelry Tree

For sometime now I have been wanting something decent to hang my necklaces on. I had one of those metal bodice things, but it wasn't really cutting the mustard, and was a bit short for my necklaces.

I had seen these timber trees in stores and liked them, but always baulked at the $150 price tag. I liked them, but not that much!!! Then one day I was browsing online and saw them for $60 at Myer. Bingo!

As luck would have it, the day I went to Myer they had 30% off christmas stock, so it came at just over $40.

I do love a bargain!

How To Decorate Nursery Schools With Exquisite Nursery Wall Decals

Morning peeps. Just popping in here with a guest post. I am being incredibly lazy, thanks to the current heatwave and am drinking coffee and lounging under the aircon vent. Talking takes too much energy, so it is lucky that Single Stone Studios are in a better climate than I am, and are willing to write more than a paragraph.

You might remember them from titles such as Wall Decals, and Wall Decals Updated and Growth Charts and Growth Charts Revisited They know their stuff, so I will let them take over.

Eliza's Stocking

I finally made a decision about what stocking to buy Eliza, this lovely burlap and linen number from Turnbow Designs.

Honestly, the picture doesn't do it justice (especially as it is hanging on our actual fireplace due to lack of mantel). It is so well made, and will last my little girl many years to come.

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells

Jingle all the way...except for when the baby is asleep!

I brought my bell wreath from Myer recently and couldn't be happier with it. I like that it is festive but something a little different to the regular green wreaths.

Hair Clip Holder

Eliza has a lot of hair clips, as something is needed to tame her wild spike. (I refer it as her Stegosaurus spike, as a reference to her being 'Dino' when I was pregnant, and me being 'Pregosaurus").

Moving right along, her clips got tossed into a glass bowl on her dresser most days, but I found this was a breeding ground for other crap too, like her dummy, random tags off new clothes and other mundane things.

I wanted to get the bowl off her change table and onto the wall, and came up with a very simple idea that I had seen around the place.

I started with an Ikea Ribba frame and a scrap of material.

As the frame didn't come with a bit of cardboard, I cut out the required size from a nappy box I was about to put in the recycle bin.

Given I was doing this during nap times I had to be quick and quiet about it, so out came the quietest tool I could find: sticky tape. Pulling the fabric tight I secured the ends with tape.

For the corners I folded them over neatly and added more tape.

It looked a little like this after all four corners were done

Even Lucy cat 'helped'. She loves laying there watching the birds and gets rather cranky when I use the desk for office type jobs.

Once all the sides were taped up I had this:

To be able to attach the clips I needed ribbon to make a criss cross pattern with. Out comes the ribbon, and you guessed it, more tape.

To get the measurements I went from corner to corner, and then used the thickness of my ruler from the outside of the ribbon. By some odd bit of luck, it fitted perfectly!

I forgot to photograph this part (partly because Eliza woke up, partly because I am forgetful), but to stop any of the ribbons moving I sewed a few stitches in each of the ribbon joins. I went through the board and everything, but you could use push pins if you wanted.

All done!

Once I made this one I decided that I wanted to make it bigger, so next time I go to Ikea I will get a bigger frame and start all over again. For now it sits on her dresser.

So there you go, a quick and easy craft project that can be done in under 2 hours.
