Robes

I often think about our future house, and plan various bits of it. Currently I am planning robes, as our current robe isn't cutting the mustard.

The husband has the left side and the top shelf in the centre. I have the rest. His side is over flowing and he uses two tall boys as well.  Ideally we would have the robe set out like this EACH, not as a joint robe. Ahh the things you learn!

I think I would like something like this, it's simple and not over the top, and highly functional.

Jewelry Tree

For sometime now I have been wanting something decent to hang my necklaces on. I had one of those metal bodice things, but it wasn't really cutting the mustard, and was a bit short for my necklaces.

I had seen these timber trees in stores and liked them, but always baulked at the $150 price tag. I liked them, but not that much!!! Then one day I was browsing online and saw them for $60 at Myer. Bingo!

As luck would have it, the day I went to Myer they had 30% off christmas stock, so it came at just over $40.

I do love a bargain!

Bedroom Update

Many, many months ago I wrote a list of things I wanted to finish in 2011.

One of the weekends the husband was working away, whilst heavily pregnant, I decided to hang the three 'thingies' I brought for the wall. I use the term 'thingies' as I really have no idea what you would call them. I think they may have been originally designed as placemats actually, but wall art they became.

The only thing with hanging placemats on the wall is that they don't have any hanging device. I started with super gluing some triangle hooks on the back, but it didn't really work properly. Not to mention that I couldn't find a hook that was suitable. I didn't want to put holes in our wall, just incase I changed my mind on how they looked, so that meant I was limited to only 3M style hooks.

With this in mind, I went for a wander in Bunnings and found these 3M picture tabs.
I wasn't sure how they worked when I brought them, but I was willing to give them a shot. Once I opened the packet and played with them, it made a lot more sense. They are a bit like the spikey bits of velcro, but when pushed together they form a bond and lock together.

I measured the width of our bedroom, marking the centre with a light pencil. I then marked the centre of the bed head, which by some weird stroke of luck, happened to line up with the centre of the room! To find the right spot for the hangings to line up on, I found the centre of the top of the bedhead and the bottom of the cornice. Basically I made one big giant cross on the wall. To make the three decals evenly spaced, I too the measurement of the bedhead, and divided by 4. I marked this on the wall, and got to work on using my stickie 3M things.

All in all,  the stickie picture "hooks" were perfect for the job, as it meant I could put them anywhere on the placemat and it didn't matter about getting a hook and nail to sit straight or level. I am thinking that they would be handy for a number of picture framing functions, especially for a photo gallery wall!

And that is how I came to mark another task off the list!

Beautiful Artwork

I was browsing Project Nursery recently, and found this nursery that I thought was adorable. However I didn't pay a great deal of attention to the artwork above the crib until later that night when I wondered if it came in other colours. So I found the seller, and the listing for the artwork, and it does! I originally was going to put it in the nursery, but I think I have changed my mind and decided it would look better in our bedroom on the wall near our built in robe.

Artwork for our bedroom

I was flicking through Real Living today, and came across Genre, and fell in love with this

I think it would be grand above our bed, especially with our red and white doona cover.

Love It

On a recent trip to the doctors, I had some time to spare, so I went down the street to check out Williamstown. To say I was impressed is an understatement. I found an awesome bookstore, a chocolate shop, and Love It Homewares.

Love It is one of those shops where you can easily spend hours, as there is so much to look at. There is something for everyone, and every house, in this shop. No matter what your style, be it ultra modern, or shabby chic, there is something there for you.

I walked out with the stone hearts in the picture above (that are beside my bed, I love turning them over in my hands as I think), and a scented candle which is in the lounge room. I could seriously have brought a lot more, but I was on a time frame. I did however promised myself that I would go back each time I am in the area though.

If you are ever in Willi, check out this store!

Oversize Mirrors

I am loving this black mirror from Mostly Mirrors, but I think I would like it in white.

At 1.25m x 2.17m it would be perfect for our bedroom!

Window Painting - TICK!

This week at our house it was all about the front window.

It went from this:
To this:

Unfortunately, painting the window frame has shown me how much the rest of the house needs painting! Luckily, I don't have a cherry picker in the back shed, so that was a task for another day!

Yet another thing crossed off the list:
  • Paint the insides of our bedroom window. We currently just keep the sunscreen blind down to cover over it!
  • Whilst the brushes are out, we need to paint the outside of the bedroom window. The olive green is starting to get to me now.
  • Paint around our front door.
  • And paint the arcitrave and skirting boards in the kitchen.
  • Whilst we're in the kitchen, we might as well tile.
  • I started painting the Laundry in August, and well, that is as far as it went. I still need to finish painting the rest of the bathroom.

Top Drawer Challenge

Hello Owl currently has a 'Top Drawer Challenge' going, where you have to share what is your top drawer.

So here is mine*
OK, in there we have
* honey moisturizer that the inlaws brought back from New Zealand - I am not a fan of the smell, so it has been shoved to the back, and is used on my feet in winter. The coconut body butter I slather myself in, and hand moisturizer for when I remember to put gloves on in bed.
* goggles
* the satin thing is a smelly log, which spreads it scent through our room
* a crystal perfume diffuser - It was a gift from a friend for my 21st, but I don't really know how to display it, hence it sits in its box in my drawer.
* a book and a notebook.
* a nail file and a foot file.
* a tub of hair ties, ear plugs, lip gloss, and other bits and bobs that I seem to hoard on my bedside table!

Why don't you head on over and play along!

*indicates that this is infact the tidy version, and not the previous version where the drawer would not open as something was jammed Pin It

Pre-Post Christmas Shopping

Seems retailers are sneaky this year, and starting their sales early. Which is awesome if you are shopping for a gift on December 24 at 3pm.

So, there I was, hunting for a present for my mum on Christmas Eve, when I walked into a local giftware store. Worth a chance, as my mum is redecorating currently.

There was nothing for her, but I picked up these awesome cushions for our bed. I love them.

My boss gave me a scented candle for christmas, which just happened to be red. It was a complete fluke, as she hadn't even seen our bedroom reno pictures! It matches in really well though, so luck was on our side that day!

And after all that shopping, I finally walked to the jewelers and brought her a Pandora charm, just like I had originally planned!

Decorating the bedroom

So our new doona arrived during the week. And given that it is red, I thought it was best I go and find some new accessories for our bedroom.

So in Freedom I found this flower thing (I think it is a Zebra plant), and this vase which I thought it tied in well).

And our lamps (which I brought ages ago, but I can't remember if I showed you or not)

New bed linen

Recently I have fallen in love with the colour red. There is just something about it.

So, when shopping for a new doona, I discovered Adairs were having a sale. So I had to buy this

I wasnt really taken by the European pillow slips, so I left them there, but I am on the hunt for a set of crisp white sheets, and some bright red pillow cases. Any suggestions on where to look?

A bit of privacy

For several weeks now we have lived with black plastic on our windows (note for other renovators, buy a roll of concreators plastic, it is awesome and can be used for everything!). We used masking tape to stick it to the window. didnt look overly attractive, but it made the room nice and dark for sleeping.

So today the curtain lady came. We still have a pelmet on order (after she forgot to order it *cranky* especially when i thought the quote was already expensive to start off with, even more so when i found out that the quote didnt include said pelmet!! next time I am going to go elsewhere, as i really do feel that i was charged too much.)

But the start looks pretty darn awesome!

We chose to use the same drapes we have in the lounge/dining room, as we are happy with them. The pelmet and tie backs will be the contrasting stripe.

As i have an issue with hayfever and asthma, i didnt want continuous lace, so was thrilled when i discovered sunscreen blinds. You cant tell from the picture, but you can sort of see outside through them during the day. Apparently the darker the blind, the more you can see outside. They remind me of those sunshades you see on car windows for people who have kids, but stiffer.

In fact, I am so happy with the sunscreen blinds i am about to order one for my lounge room window, and will eventually order them for the kitchen windows.

Lighting the way

The other day I made an impromptu shopping trip, and this is what I came home with

Well, just the lamp, the phone and Tiffany bag were pre-owned by moi. It is hard to see, but the glass balls have a cracked glass look to them, that is quite cool to look at. I am still debating on whether to change the shades to a latte coloured one, but not sure on that one, the white doesnt come up to bad.

Despite the husband not understanding the need for new lamps (apparently the unmatching of the old ones isnt a reason) I am glad I brought them. Especially when they were on sale too!

Moving

Well today was the day. The day I have waited 11 weeks for.

MY CARPET WAS LAID!

Now, this is quite a simple thing to be thrilled about, but to me it is huge. We never had nice carpet in our house, it was ugly 1950's floral, 1970's floral and some retro blue crap that reminded me of marine carpet. But now we have lovely plush brown carpet.

Carpet in the bottom of our linen press (note that it still is neat, and empty)

Our bedroom

And our cupboards

A close up of our carpet, I dont think I have show you all yet.

And with furniture (must buy new lamps and another Euro pillow tomorrow)
