Thankful 9: Employment

Image from Flickr

This year saw a large number of people be made redundant, as factories struggled to continue business during the GFC. This hit home with me, as my former employer was force to close down their large family business after 70 years. It left 95 people out of a job, and without termination pay. That could have been me.

So, I am thankful for still being employed, and looking like being employed for a number of years (I work for the government). Only once have I been unemployed, when I was 19, and it was the worst 6 weeks of my life. I relied on my parents to get me through (I was still at uni and living at home), and very thankful that they helped me out at such a time. I hope to never know the pain of having to tell my family that I no longer have a job to go to, and think about how it will affect our lives.

  1. It is a great thing to have a job! I try to remember that every day when I don't want to get out of bed.
